Third Age Initiative™ Class 15 Community Impact Teams

At Leadership Greater Hartford, we believe in the transformative power of leadership at all ages and stages of life.

Our Third Age Initiative™ program empowers retirement-aged people to channel their wisdom and experience and give back to the community. Since the program began, nearly 400 older adults have brought their unique socioeconomic, ethnic, educational, and cultural perspectives to solve problems, create better communities and work together to make important things happen.

In the fall of 2020, we launched the 15th class of this year-long program. Led by LGH Leadership Preceptor, Dr. Doe Hentschel, the class has been quite busy, gathering virtually for leadership development workshops and team meetings. While they were unable to participate in our traditional Hartford Encounter tours, small groups donning masks explored Hartford, visiting nearly two dozen organizations that work to address various community issues. The class has taken what they have learned, as well as their own research, and have formed action teams to help further address areas of need in the community.

Community Impact Teams

Work Matters. This team aims to create a project that will connect Hartford area residents with employment training and opportunities that enhance individual success. The team has been meeting with potential partner organizations that embrace an optimistic, vision-driven regional approach to 21st century economic growth.

Won’t You Be My Neighbor. This team is working to create an impactful project that fosters greater collaboration and equity throughout the Greater Hartford region through a focus on urban/suburban relations, fair housing, and anti-racism.

Connect/Abilities. This team is focusing on a project that will connect young adults with IDD (Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities) in the Hartford area with engaging activities in the Keney Park neighborhood to help them develop personal and work skills appropriate to volunteerism and potential employment opportunities.

This tuition-free program is made possible through the generous support of
our Third Age Initiative™ sponsors.
